The Essex EUP-108 is a Continental-style console upright measuring approximately 42½ inches in height. The model was designed by Steinway & Sons and incorporates a number of structural and design features developed or specified by Steinway.
One of the piano's most important features is its solid spruce soundboard, which is tapered to encourage efficient vibration and projection. The piano also uses a Steinway-designed low-tension scale intended to produce a warm, full tone with good sustain and dynamic range.
The action utilizes all-wood moving components, rather than plastic action parts, providing a traditional feel and allowing the pianist excellent control and responsiveness. The massive, staggered spruce backposts provide a strong structural foundation for the soundboard and string tension.
